This position is funded by the Alberta Innovates Summer Research Studentships (SRS) program. The SRS program provides undergraduate students with paid experiential learning opportunities at post-secondary institutes in Alberta, enhancing their interest and success in health research and innovation. Developing the next generation of health research and innovation leaders to accelerate discoveries into care is a core mission for Alberta Innovates and its partners. This program is designed to provide summer experiential learning opportunities for Alberta students already registered in an undergraduate program that are interested in emerging technologies and cross-disciplinary research in health.
School of Health and Life Sciences’ Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS) offers an interactive and interdisciplinary clinical simulation facility that replicates real-world scenarios in clinical, community care and home care environments. By having students directly participate in research, the project creates a practical integrated learning experience. Research Assistants will gain hands-on experience in the medical and healthcare field by exploring the intersection of health and technology. SRS funding will provide emerging talent with the opportunity to work directly with companies and innovators in the Alberta ecosystem who are developing health technologies. Students will be able to participate in research activities with their peers and develop relationships with future employers.
Key Responsibilities
Develop knowledge and understanding of healthcare simulation and simulation-based research.
Actively participate in the activities of the Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation.
Engage in a research project divided into subprojects including a literature review, development of study methods and materials, data collection, and data analysis.
Collaborate in the production of a research manuscript.
Engage with industry partners, companies, and healthcare professionals.
Participate in team meetings and project planning.
Engage in activities in the School of Health and Life Sciences at NAIT.
Skills & Abilities
Willingness and ability to work collaboratively in a team including with other students, researchers, faculty members, health technology companies, and academic institutions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, for research and team collaboration.
Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and team dynamics.
Understanding of and adherence to ethical research practices and institutional guidelines.
Proactive in taking on responsibilities and eager to learn and contribute to research projects.
Qualifications
Enrollment in a program related to either health or life sciences, education, business, psychology, or engineering.
Previous experience or courses in research is advantageous.
Must be able to work full-time for the duration of the contract.
Must be enrolled at NAIT or another Edmonton based Post-Secondary Institution
Adherence to NAIT’s safety and inclusive learning environment policies.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, is required.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration
: $18.54 - $23.26 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of stat holidays and vacation accrual. (Classification – Student Research Assistant I)
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
